I’m Eric Thies, if we haven’t met. I’m the new president of the West Ada Education Association and I am excited for the new year!
I want to answer a couple of common questions I have been hearing a lot this week. But first I want to say…
You are awesome. And I have proof. You have been dedicated to making this district the best district to learn in, and people have been noticing the quality of life, and education the city of Meridian. Meridian has been ranked the best city to live in, in the entire USA, in part because of the great work you do everyday in your schools. (Seriously, check it out, this is a USA Today link.) With out you, Meridian wouldn’t be #1. I am excited to be working with all of you this year, and am honored to be your president.
Now for the information…
Everyone is asking their building reps about contracts. The district office is working hard to prepare the contracts for all teachers and deliver them to schools early next week.
If you want to see the new master contract it can be found on the district website, under departments, then budget and finance, district expenditures, then finally, master contract. Here’s a link: Master Contract.
Secondly, I’ve hear rumors about certified staff being told they have to work on October 5th. That’s not true. If you look at the working contract, it is a contract day. However, Tuesday and Wednesday night is Parent Teacher Conferences. (PTC) You should be working extra hours the nights of PTC. To compensate you, they have made Thursday the 5th a non student contact “working day” on the calendar, but you are not expected to show up to work on Thursday. If this confuses you, or your administrator is telling you different, please let me know. We’ll figure it out together.
Thanks for being an amazing teacher!
