The West Ada Education Association is very proud of the job they did in bargaining this previous year. By no means was it a perfect bargain, but a lot was accomplished and all staff saw an increase to their salary. The Negotiators themselves spent 100s of work hours planning and negotiating on behalf of the certified teachers of the West Ada School District. Their time and efforts were very commendable on your behalf.
In particular, the WAEA Negotiations team worked to provide a professional dues stipend to it’s current and potential members. The idea was that we know how expensive belonging to a reputable and professional organization can be, and educators deserve a break when they choose to make a decision to join the WAEA.
Originally the stipend was built into the package created collaboratively with the West Ada School District. However, as the bargain went on and compromises were made the professional dues stipend was left out of the package. Gone, but not lost, the professional dues stipend was then agreed upon barring the outcome of the rebate for insurance premiums. Luckily for us, the rebate this year was significant and the professional dues stipend ended up being $450 for certified staff and $300 for classified staff. Although the agreement for classified staff can’t be found in the master contract due to bargaining laws in Idaho, the WAEA did collaborate with the District away from the bargaining table to make sure that classified employees saw a stipend as well.
In the future the West Ada Education Association Negotiations Team would like to negotiate the professional dues stipend into the contract with a more permanent funding source. In order to continue to reward those of our profession who see the value in advancing education and the working conditions of those who provide that education.
Ultimately, if it were not for the time and dedication of the WAEA Negotiations team, it would very likely end up that a professional dues stipend would not have found its way into the pockets of the well deserving staff of the West Ada School District. We thank those of you who are members and encourage those of you who are not to join us in making the West Ada School District the best district it can be.
